Associated Rigging has been working to bring a little bit of Hollywood magic to Melbourne, and in doing so, we have landed our own little spot on TV! (view news link below)
A new $46 million super sound stage, named 'Sound Stage 6', is currently being built on Docklands Drive, Docklands. Extending over 3,700sqm it's hoping to attract the Hollywood elite once complete.
The production theatre will be the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Featuring a huge pool, it will enable production crews to film underwater scenes and will have capacity for entire sets such as villages and large buildings.
There are already five film and TV stages in close proximity to the new facility and they are expected to operate as usual while construction of the facility is underway.
The new theatre is expected to provide a boost to the economy in our region. On their website, the Victorian Government states, "In 2018-19 screen projects supported by the Victorian Government generated $251 million and supported more than 8,300 local jobs."
The Bolte Bridge in Melbourne is a good vantage point to view the development, providing the public with a sneak peek.
Our AC200, AC100 and AC35 Terex mobile cranes have been carrying out the heavy lifting. Construction of Sound Stage 6 is expected to be concluded by the end of this year.
